Obituary for Scott Wood

Hanover

Scott Alan Wood, age 63, was called home by his Heavenly Father on December 30, 2018 after a courageous six year battle with thyroid cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Deborah Wood.

Scott was born on April 8, 1955 in York, PA son of Ruth and the late Alvin Wood. He is survived by his children, stepchildren, and spouses: Jeremy Schaffner of Hanover, Monica and Mark Keeney of York, Kurt and Amy Wood of Dover, Derek and Angela Wood of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by his grandchildren and step grandchildren: Andrew Wood, Carter Schaffner, Michael and Kayle Fry, Zachariah Silar, Jakob and Kylie Keeney, one great granddaughter: Gabriella Fry and one goddaughter: Miranda Krout. He is survived as well by his siblings and their spouses: Pamalisa and Rodney McClellan of York, Lance Wood of York, Tanalyn and Robert Behler of York. Scott is also survived by a number of good, loyal friends who he had the privilege of knowing for many years: Steven Martin, Lance Krout, Dave Kahley, and Justin Seibel just to name a few.

Scott was a police officer serving in West York Borough for 28 years. Being a police officer was a vital part of who he was and although he retired over 10 years ago, in his heart he would always be a police officer. He also kept a special place in his heart for the partner he rode with for most of those 28 years, Keith Albright. Scott had many interests: reading, train watching (he was an avid railfan), military history, antiquing, pocketknife collecting, and model railroading. He spent many hours enjoying the peace and quiet of his library where he was surrounded by some of his most prized books and possessions. He loved to debate on a wide variety of subjects and if anyone joined in a debate with him that individual wanted to have his or her facts straight because Scott always had his at the ready. Scott was a strong family man whose love for his family was second only to his love for God. His favorite passage of the Bible was Psalm 23 and this passage was read to him as his life on this earth was ending and he was welcomed into his new life in heaven. He will be greatly missed as a powerful presence and an all-around good guy. We love you Scott, Dad, Pop-pop. You will never be forgotten in our hearts and minds and we look forward to the day when again we will all be reunited and the circle will be unbroken.

A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Hanover, 200 Frederick St., Hanover PA 17331. He will be laid to rest following the service at St. Peter Lischey’s Cemetery in Spring Grove. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-11 am at the church. Funeral services are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., of Spring Grove.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
